Linguist

Linguistics is the scientific study of language. It is a very broad field with so many specialties. Some of the linguists work in academia, researching and teaching different areas of language such as phonetics (sounds), syntax (word order) and semantics (meaning). Other researchers in this field focus on specialties like computational linguistics or applied linguistics. Still other linguists work as language experts for the government, advertising companies, dictionary, publishers and various private enterprises.

Working Condition

Linguists in colleges and universities spend their maximum time in teaching and research. Most linguists work thirty-five to forty hours a week. Etymologists and lexicographers spend most of these hours at their computers or in libraries conducting painstaking and detailed research.
