A New Opportunity for ITI Graduates

In a new guideline announced by National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) students undergoing vocational training will be able to obtain a class 12 certificate that will be equal to an intermediate certificate from Central and State  Boards.

The NIOS is offering class 12 and class 10 certificates through open and distance learning system to students who pass three vocational papers- of same and two academic papers, out of which one should be a language paper. The other can be one of the subjects on offer.

An MoU is also signed between the NIOS and the Directorate-General of Employment and Training to give class 12 and class 10 certificates to those who have obtained training in the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). If a student wants to receive a class 12 certificate he/she has to pass three vocational papers from ITIs and then register with NIOS and pass two academic papers.

This plan is part of the Narendra Modi government’s drive on skill development. This proposal will possibly profit 18 lakh people who take admission to ITIs every year and pass outs of ITIs in the past.

Students who are eligible to complete two academic courses from the NIOS through open and distance learning are individuals who have passed courses from ITI in a range of vocations like electricians, electronic mechanic, fitter, turner, wireman, motor vehicle mechanic etc.
