23 Aug 17

A new study has warned that love for chicken delicacies involves high risk of health issues. The threat not only surrounds India but the entire world. An Indo-American study tells that Punjab is famous for its large and extremely crowded poultry farms. These may be developing ‘super bugs’ or bacteria that are resistant to routine antibiotics.

The study reported the existence of antibiotic-resistance bacteria detected in poultry farms in Punjab. The growth promoting antibiotics is highly used in animal farming. It leads to origin of disastrous consequences posing risks for human health. The recently retired WHO Director-General, Margaret Chan said that world is on the edge of losing miracle cures. By stating miracle cures, Chan referred to antibiotics that fall as “wonder drugs” which are the miracles of modern medicine.

The new study informed about the breeding of superbugs in crowded poultry farms. WHO told that Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) threatens the effective prevention and treatment of ever increasing infections. The infections are caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi.
