24 Aug 17

The major part of diet of anatomically modern humans who lived in now Crimea, Ukraine was plants and the meat of mammoths, red deer and horses. It was between 38,000 and 33,000 years ago. Anatomically modern humans started colonizing in Europe around 45,000-43,000 years ago. They replaced Neanderthals approximately 3,000 years later.

Professor Hervé Bocherens who is a bio-geologist at the Senckenberg Center for Human Evolution and Palaeo environment at the University of Tübingen, Germany did study on it. Bocherens was also the lead author of a study published in the journal Scientific Reports. The studies got deeply examined and it was postulated that the diet of the anatomically modern humans was more diverse, flexible and often included fish.

To construct the diet of these Homo sapiens, Bocherens and co-authors examined directly dated human and animal specimens from the Paleolithic site of BuranKaya III in Ukraine. The researchers said that Buran-Kaya III is a rock shelter located on the eastern bank of the Burulcha River in the Belogorsk region of South Crimea.
