Sardar Singh Will No Longer Be Captain of Hockey

13 Jul 16
Trust Hockey India took the responsibility of being captain off Sardar Singh’s shoulders, ending his eight-year reign with the men’s team. The position has been passed to his deputy PR Sreejesh, who had led India to the Champions Trophy silver last month. High performance director Roelant Oltmans said that the move was made to free Sardar of excess responsibility. He believes Sardar had way too much to tackle, because of which the level of his performance was being affected. The newly appointed skipper Sreejesh believes that restoring faith in the players is vital, and it would help them to function as a single unit and win matches.
