Farming is Uneconomical: Said by Father of Indian Green Revolution

26 Sep 17

The series of farm loan waivers in India shows clearly that farming as a profession is uneconomical in India. The agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan strongly said this statement. He also emphasized that abating farmer loans has never helped in solving the problem.

Swaminathan told that we all should focus on making farming more economical, more profitable and more productive rather than trying to resolve this short-term problem with loan waivers. Waiving of farm loans have been done by four Indian states. As per the election promise by the current Government in Uttar Pradesh, they have pardoned farm loans of Rs 36,000 crore in April, 2017. Then, the Governments of Maharashtra, Punjab and Karnataka also followed by waiving fully or partially. Urjit Patel, Reserve Bank of India Governor already warned previously that waivers constitute risks to inflation and credit discipline.

M.S. Swaminathan who led India’s Green Revolution in 1960s said that Government will have to retell its commitment to agriculture. He added that Government need more research, more extension, more training and remunerative marketing.

The Dust Devils and its Impact

25 Sep 17

The moving pillars of dust and sand that are known as “Dust Devils” are the specification of desert areas on the Earth and Mars too. A recent research has revealed that around two thirds of the fine particles lifted by these cyclones can remain suspended in the atmosphere and be carried around the globe frequently. This particular finding will have effect not only on the climate and weather of these two planets but it will certainly affect our health too. It is found that almost half of the dust lifted into the atmosphere of Mars each year comes from these so - called dust devils. The scientists have taken the samples of grains lifted by dust devils at different heights.

Dust devils have different strengths and dimensions; however, of a similar structure. These dust devils lift the grains of larger diameter from a certain height and with increases of height the grains’ diameters decreases. In the terrestrial dust devils the fine dust particles appear to stay in suspension. These small mineral aerosols can travel long distances on Earth and have an adverse impact on the climate and weather. They can also reach populated areas and affect air quality along with human health. Further research is going on to understand them more effectively.

Human V/S Robots at Workplace in Future

23 Sep 17

With rapid changes in technologies the machines are replacing men at workplace as they insure accuracy in work and saves time. A set of habitual behaviour, cognitions and emotional activities that evolve from biological and environmental factors is called personality. As robots are coming into use at various business and work places the fear of losing the job has started tingling into our minds.

However, a research has shown that, there is nothing to worry, as robots can't perform as humans when it’s the question to have complex social interactions.  We humans can also beat machines when it comes to complete the tasks that require creativity and a high level of complexity that is not usual. Humans perform better in complex situation due to their flexibility.

A research has shown that people with higher level of intelligence, maturity and extraversion and higher interests in arts and sciences are tended to be selected into less computerized job in coming future. It is stressed that the education system must be equipped to face upcoming changes in the labour market, and fortunately it’s changing.  There are many fields who will allow the number of tasks that machines can perform better than humans, that merely increasing educational levels won't be enough to keep up with job automation rather one should be extra intelligent to prove his worth.

This project aimed to establish a way for capturing and simulating motor behavior in dreams. The presentation on this project consist a demonstration of an iPad avatar animation. It was created out from real data of a sleeping participant. They also thought that their set up will reflect the movements of the participant’s dreaming body.

A lot of research on dream subject was able to establish that body movements in dreams are connected with real signals in the muscles of the sleeping body. The signals are those that appear in the same muscles that are involved in the dream behavior.
