Earth May Appeared As Gigantic Spheres of Warm Mud

21 Aug 17

A new study on Earth suggested that it started as huge balls of warm mud and not as rocky asteroids. Earlier it was viewed by scientists that the planet Earth was built from rocky asteroids. In fact it’s not even Earth, but other planets in our solar system too have a possibility of being originated from gigantic balls of warm mud instead of rocky asteroids.

The researchers at Curtin University in Australia had studied this and deeply analyzed the new theory. Phil Bland who works as a planetary scientist with Curtin University investigated more about smaller planets. According to him, it will get a better insight about these precursors to the larger and known terrestrial planets of today. Bryan Travis who is a senior scientist at Curtin University told the assumption about hydrothermal alteration that was occurring in certain classes of rocky asteroids with material properties similar to meteorites.

Travis added that formation of mud would have occurred when ice melted from heat released from decay of radioactive isotopes. Then only the resulting water would have mixed with fine-grained dust.

'Slow Motion' Earthquakes in New Zealand

21 Sep 17

An Earthquake is a natural phenomenon that occurs when sudden energy is released by earth. It typically causes great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action. There is a kind of slow motion earthquake that occurs over days to weeks be considered to be able to bring great destruction, called a “Slow slip events.” A new study has revealed Kaikura earthquake with 7.8 magnitudes triggered a slow slip event on New Zealand's North Island. A few of the slow slip events occurred as far away as 300 miles from the earthquake. Kaikoura earthquake that hit the South Island of New Zealand in 2016 is considered the second largest quake that has ever been recorded with 7.8 magnitudes.

This type of fault is responsible for causing some of the world's most dangerous earthquakes. An area where a tectonic plate dives or "sub ducts" under an adjacent tectonic plate is termed as subduction zone. This type of fault causes some of the world's most powerful earthquakes, which occur when areas of built-up pressure between the tectonic plates fractures. Slow slip events resemble to earthquakes, as they involve more frequent than normal movement between two pieces of Earth's crust along a fault. Scientists are still trying to justify the relationships between slow slip events and earthquakes but it is clear that they are very powerful earthquakes.

A Balance Amount of Folic Acid to Lower the Risk of Autism

20 Sep 17

Autism is a disorder that refers to a range of conditions, combined with various neurological and physical disabilities. It creates problem in repetitive behaviour, speech, understanding and nonverbal communication of the child.  A research has proven that the children whose mothers had taken 800 or more micrograms of folic acid, has comparatively lower risk of developing Autism. It is also important that mother should be away of pesticides and polluted area to avoid the disease in child. Mothers who took folic acid and were not exposed to pesticides during pregnancy then there had been lesser chance of developing Autism in the child. It is found by a research that being exposed to pesticides and having a lower level of folic acid at the time of conception of foetus invites autism in child. Folic acid helps in recreation of body cells that is essential to fight with autism. It also helps in DNA formation and repair. Autistic children always face trouble in performing their regular activities and communicating with others unlike normal children. This can be avoided by applying some regular precaution and by consuming a regular quantity of folic acid before and during pregnancy; however, it is not a 100% cure. High doses of folic acid helps improve brain function by overcoming the blockade and restoring normal foliate levels inside brain cells that minimizes the risk of autism.

Delhi’s Forgotten Historical Gems

19 Sep 17

Delhi has given shelter to everyone and it’s a place full of historical monuments. These places remind us the stories of ancient times and early India. It’s often called a best destination for tourist.

However, there are many places which are ignored by tourists and residents. There is a treasure trove of monuments out there, waiting to be explored. There are various other structures and monuments and Adham Khan’s Tomb, Mehrauli Village is one of those. This tomb is built by Akbar in 1561 for his foster-brother Adham Khan, son of Maham Anga, who Akbar ordered killed by repeatedly throwing down the walls of the Agra Fort.

As per the history, this tomb is considered unique because of its octagonal shape. Most of the tombs of 3rd century BC are hexagonal. Many people believe that Akbar wanted to build a tomb for Adham in respect for his mother Maham Anga, while making it matchless in the sense that this was a tomb of a traitor.

An Eye on Earth- Search of Hidden Worlds

18 Sep 17

A group of scientists from Queen's University Belfast and the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany have come out with a new discovery that find out that how an alien observer can able to detect our Earth using our own techniques. They found that at least nine planets are well placed to observe movement of Earth. Solar missions like SuperWASP and Kepler have discovered thousands of stars other than sun in the solar galaxy and have named them “Exoplanets.”

The new concept is that, various planets in our Solar System could be seen while passing through their “transit zones” that is the area near their host star. Many other planets can also be seen depending upon the time and distance from the star. Smaller planets are more likely to be seen as larger planets block out more light while passing through their host stars. It is observed by the astronomers that three planets at most could be observed from anywhere outside of the Solar System, and that combinations of three planets are not possible.

Detecting a single planet is higher than two or three planets. It is estimated that there are tens of the worlds that are favourably located to detect the Earth and are capable of sustaining life. In future scientists may target these transit zones to search for exoplanets with favourable living conditions.
