Five Lessons to Learn for Parenting in Digital Age

21 Feb 18

Parenting can be a little tough in the digital era because the internet and the devices that encompass our day-to-day life can lead to negative development patterns in kids when not utilized properly. Here are some tips to get through parenting in digital age:

  • Set Rules and Boundaries: When children have their digital devices always, it can kind of hamper the development of social interaction with others. So, it is best that you make some time for the devices and the internet. Do not allow them to use devices at the dining table, in the park, while you are at a gathering with family and friends, etc.
  • Jump into Positive Things: Do not get all negative about the digital devices used by your kid. If used in the right manner, they can help with the kid's development. Try to use them for positive experiences like educational videos or talking to a family member who lives far away.
  • Make Use of Parental Controls: Most of the devices, apps and games come with an inbuilt parental control. Make good use of them.
  • Communicate: There is nothing better than communication when it comes to device control. Talk to them about both the positives and negatives, tell them why it is important to use it but in a controlled manner.
  • Keep up with the Current Technology: It is essential that you keep up with all the latest trends like apps, devices, etc. so as to make sure you know what your kids are exposed to.

The U.S Has A Long History Of Militarizing Mexican Border

20 Apr 18

President Donald Trump's promise to use the National Guard to secure the U.S.-Mexico border isn't a new concept and is something the U.S. has done in the past for varying reasons.

SLAVERY AND CHINESE EXCLUSION

After the U.S. seized Texas and American Southwest following the U.S-Mexico War, armed militias patrolled the border looking for runaway black slaves. The traditional Underground Railroad to the north was too far for slaves to travel so thousands attempted the journey south to freedom. Soon, a guerra sorda, or cold war, developed between the nations.

REVOLUTION AND REVOLT

Tensions remained high between white settlers, Mexican-Americans and Native Americans in the newly acquired territory following the U.S-Mexico War.

IMMIGRATION AND DRUGS

Congress created the U.S. Border Patrol in 1924 and the agency slowly grew in size as its mission changed. At first, the agents sought to keep out Asian immigrants and later worked to stall alcohol trafficking in the Prohibition era. Slowly, it evolved into stalling unwanted migration from Mexico.

Bony Labyrinth; Clue To Ancient Human Dispersal

19 Apr 18

Our ears are in charge of collecting sounds around us, processing them and passing the sound signals to our brain. It does not end just there, the ears help you to walk straight too without losing your balance. Made of three different sections, the outer, the middle and the inner ear together process all the sounds that we hear.

It is a well established fact that the very first humans emerged in Africa. However, there is a constant research to find the point at which the human dispersal started and how the human moved to different parts of the Earth. This story of dispersal is constantly getting rewritten. During the last one year research shows that the early humans moved out multiple times however, the details are limited to the DNA that has been found of our ancient ancestors. A very recent study reveals that the one of the body part that was often overlooked now sheds light on the ancient human movement. That part is the “bony Labyrinth” of the inner ear. The maze like structure of the vestibule, semicircular canal and the cochlea that looks like a pretzel is known as the “bony labyrinth’. It has been found that this structure differs slightly from person to person but tends to look similar amongst people who share the same genetics. This morphological similarity could help us find how far the humans migrated from Africa; given the fact that initially all the bony labyrinths looked similar or were similar as they all had the same genes.

Study Proves The Importance Of Dog Speak For Bonding Between Pet And Owner

18 Apr 18

Scientists have proven that just like baby talk leads to a greater bonding between the baby and the parent, dog speak can also strengthen your bond with your canine friend. Scientists at the University of York proved that speech interaction can improve attention and help humans to socially bond with your pets. Previous studies on the subject have proved that talking in high pitch voice improved connection with puppies but didn't make much difference with dogs.

During the experiment, humans were made to talk to dogs both in dog speak and adult speech with no dog related content. The former talked to dogs with dog directed speech such as 'you are a good boy' and 'shall we go for a walk?' and the latter said phrases such as 'I went to cinema last night'. After the attention to the speech was measured, the dogs were allowed to decide which speaker they wanted to interact with physically. The researchers also experimented on whether or not it was the high pitched emotional voice that attracted them or it was the words themselves.

Not only did they found out that our canine pets preferred more dog related content in your speech, they also proved that high pitched emotional voice was almost irrelevant and it was the dog related words that mattered more. The research is definitely useful for pet owners, veterinary officials and rescue workers.
