CBSE plans to renew its affiliation byelaws for schools to bring in more transparency. CBSE also wants to bring schools in tune with legislations like Right to Education Act (RTE) and Persons with Disabilities Act.
CBSE Chairperson R K Chaturvedi stated that there is a requirement to update the existing norms and bring these norms “in tune” with existing laws. He also stated that CBSE is reviewing the byelaws and want to make them attuned with the legislation. The Government has planned to bring in a New Education Policy in the coming days. Board would ensure that the norms will be in consonance with the policy.
Right to Education Act permits children with special needs to pursue mainstream education. However, these children are forced to go to special schools.
Differently abled children cannot be separated from other students as per the “Inclusion” in the RTE. Schools often use this inclusion model for selected students with mild or moderate special needs. Education curriculum should be restructured in such a way that all students can learn without being separated.
