BENFICA EDERSON -MANCHESTER CITY’S TO-BE WORD RECORD FEE GOALKEEPER

Sky sources said that Manchester City is in talks to sign Benfica goalkeeper Ederson for world record fee for goalkeeper. He would soon be heading for Manchester City for further talks and a medical. It is said that the proposed fee for the stopper would be £34.8 million.

The present world record fee for a goalkeeper is the £32.6 million which was paid to Parma by Juventus in 2001 for Gianluigi Buffon.
The 23-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper joined Benfica originally when he was 16 years. After two years he was released. He then worked with Portuguese lower-league side Ribeirao and then with Rio Ave. In 2015, again Benfica signed him. Although Ederson is yet to be capped at senior level, he has won a couple of League titles at Benfica and been invited into the Brazil squad.

His likely arrival at the Etihad Stadium further strengthens suspicion over the disputed decision to drop Joe Hart, City's England international keeper.

Last summer, Claudio Bravo from Barcelona was signed for £17.1 million. But he faced criticism before getting injured towards the campaign’s end. And, Willy Caballero whose contract expires this summer will soon leave.
