The scientists have been working on a study and collection of patient outcomes which they have named as Deep brain stimulation technique. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has proven its effectiveness in different types of psychiatric disorders, neuropathic pain and neurodegenerative diseases.
As per the study, schizophrenia remains one of the major causes of disability universally, with 30 percent of the patients' intractable to the treatment. The researchers have stated that DBS may be an effective treatment in patients with refractory schizophrenia. This study was aimed to describe the protocol and the preliminary results of the first seven cases of schizophrenia treated with DBS.
During the treatment, the patients were randomized into two areas, based on two different physiological hypotheses. The scientists stated that the process is a prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial in patients with treatment-resistant, chronic paranoid schizophrenia.
Preliminary reports states that the DBS can be a very effective treatment and can ensure good results. But the scientists are waiting for the study to be completed.
