French Open: Jelena Ostapenko Reach the Final After 1983

After 1983, Jelena Ostapenko became the first Latvian Grand Slam finalist after blasting past Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky. The birthday girl from Latvia became the first unseeded player to reach the final. Now she will play Romanian third seed Halep in the summit clash, as per the reports.

Before this Ostapenko, the world No 47 is the first unseeded player to reach the final at Roland Garros since Mima Jausovec in 1983. 20 YO player Latvian is also the youngest woman to advance to the final of a major since a 19-year-old Caroline Wozniacki finished runner-up at the 2009 US Open.

As per the reports, she will take on third seed Simona Halep from Romania in the summit clash. Halep beat second seed Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the French Open final for the second time. Jelena will be a first-time Major winner while victory will also crown Halep as the new world No 1, replacing Angelique Kerber. Halep had lost to Maria Sharapova in 2014 final.
