Harrow Football is Very Tricky to Play

The code of football which is played between two teams consisting of eleven players wherein each attempt to win by scoring more bases (goals) than the opponent team is Harrow Football. The sport is played with the feet but players may use any part of their body in certain circumstances. For example, they can use hands and arms to propel the ball.

The shape of the leather ball is like a giant pork pie which has dimensions set as 18 inches in diameter and 12 inches (300 mm) deep. It has the tendency of becoming extremely heavy by soaking mud and water. Harrow football is the ancestor of association football and played exclusively at Harrow School. It is played both between the teams of boys currently at the school and between boys at the school and old boys. Harrow School now also plays exhibition games against non-Harrow or Old Harrovian opposition. The games are played against Eton, Sunningdale Prep School Masters, Mossbourne Academy, Hatch End High School and The John Lyon School.
