NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant launched healthy ice-creams ‘NurtiIce Cream/ Frozen Desert’ enriched with Omega 3 & Vitamin E on 6th July. CSIR-CFTRI has developed this product in association with Olema Biosolutions, Bengaluru and Dairy Classic Ice Creams Pvt. Ltd. The Central Food Technological Research Biosolutions found superior sensory qualities of Omega 3 & Vitamin–E along with high nourishment value in these ice creams.
This is a groundbreaking innovation to add nutritional value to ice cream through Omega-3 fats. Chia seeds, a superfood having the highest content of Omega-3 fat from a vegetarian source, has also been used to develop this ice cream.
It is considered to be a revolution in India since Omega-3 fat is found in fish and being from a non- vegetarian origin, it is not readily accepted by the vegetarians.
CFTRI wants to develop more food products that are Omega-3 enriched to offer superior health to consumers on a global platform. For the same, CFTRI has developed agrotechnology for chia & shared the seeds with farmers across the nation.
