Editorials News | Sep-09-2017
The game basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith in the year 1891. It was first played on 21 Dec, 1891; 125 years ago in Springfield, Massachusetts, U.S. It is usually played indoors with five people on each side. Maximum score can be won depending upon the place from where the ball is shot.
A player can use multiple techniques to score a point like, ball handling, passing, dribbling, shot-blocking, and rebounding. Depending upon the strengths of the players, positions are decided; tallest members are called center, while slightly shorter are called small forward. Basketball is one of the most popular sports played across the world. We have all heard about The National Basketball Association (NBA) that comprises of world’s best basketball players. The game has been adopted by various social groups; like recreational basketball, basketball schools and academics, disabled basketball, deaf basketball, wheelchair basketball, etc.
These are ways of bringing special needs people together to motivate them to work as a team. Classic example is of prison basketball, that is played in prisons. The game not only helps in entertaining prisoners, but it also helps them to grow as a team. They learn to live together better. I am sure after knowing so much about basketball, all of us will certainly want to give it a try once. Cheers to the passion this game carries!
