PIL on Climate Change Filed By a 9 Year Old Girl

Ridhima Pandey is a 9 year old girl from Nainital, Uttarakhand who has taken a big responsibility. The girl filed a PIL in National Green Tribunal (NGT). She demanded analysis on climate change, a list of sources of greenhouse gas emissions and inspection of forest diversion cases.

NGT issued notices to Centre and provided two weeks to respondents. The next hearing will be on 4th May. This step is going to make Ministry of Environment, forest and climate change (MoEFCC) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) more responsible.

Since her childhood, Ridhima was very curious and conscious about environment. She was not happy with the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) released in June2008. The primary objective of this plan was development and climate change was ‘co-benefit’ in it. Ridhima was unhappy with the inactive Environmental departments. It took her one year to file PIL but she did it with the help of her parents.
