SSC Board Now Seems Keen to Shed Its Sluggish Image

From this year, the SSC students studying India’s geography will also learn the details of Brazil. Their new textbook contains an in-depth, comparison of India’s geography with the Brazil on various aspects such as topography, vegetation, climate and more. On this the chairperson of the geography subject committee, N J Jadhav, said comparisons among the two countries will help students to understand the concept clearly. He said "We picked Brazil on the basis of its similarities as well as differences with India".

Officials said that the basis of choosing a country for comparison was that it should be located in a different hemisphere and a different continent but should have cultural and natural diversity and a democratic form of government like India.

Released on Wednesday, the fresh SSC Maths (Part l) textbook also includes a chapter on financial planning that talk about GST, income tax, mutual funds, and share markets. While the history book also includes concepts such as history and mass media, sports, heritage, entertainment and historiography as the state board wants to make learning wide-ranging for its students.

The SSC now seems eager to shed its sluggish image. The chairperson of the geography subject Committee, said comparison between Brazil and India’s geography will help students understand better.

The additional information on certain topics can also be explored by using the QR code that can be found on the new textbooks.
