The Critical Condition of the Southern Marine Ecosystems

An ecosystem is a community made up of living organisms and non-living components such as air, water and mineral soil. It has been observed that natural along with humanly factors have indeed put Iran's southern waters of the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman under environmental pressure. This piece of information has been confirmed by a senior official at the Department of Environment.

Due to the slow and steady destruction of the biodiversity, the ecosystem in the coastal area is nearly close to crossing the ecological threshold. It is the condition when a little change or disturbance in external conditions leads to a rapid change in the ecosystem. The shrinking of Hara forests in Qeshm Island and the declining number of aquatic species tending to reproduce in the Persian Gulf waters, are reflective of the damage. This has been observed by Davoud Mirshekar, DOE's director for marine ecosystems.
