Hockey is a form of sport that is played between two teams with a stick, whose lower part is curved so that the ball can be pushed. Hockey stick is made of wood and has no sharp edge. History reflects that an unpolished form of the game was played in Egypt 4,000 years ago and in Ethiopia around 1,000 BC. The modern game of hockey emerged in England in the mid-18th century. Hockey stick is an integral part of it. It has gone through various changes to come into its present form. The oldest known hockey stick, dates back to the mid-1800s, was made out of hornbeam wood. Ash became the material for hockey stick in 1920s. They were very durable but were too heavy to play easily. Those sticks were not curved, and the blade was inserted into a notch in the shaft and glued together. Later on wood blades were started to be wrapped in fibreglass, and it made sticks cheaper, lighter and durable too. A revolutionary change came to the hockey stick in 1990s when carbon fibre was started to be used as the main material of stick. The blades were made adjustable. First composite blade was introduced in 1995 that is its present form. There are various types of hockey sticks used in different kind of hockey. Thus, it has a long history.
