Types of Tennis Courts

Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world today and the fastest game of courts too. The game is now played on a variety of surface materials. Each type of surface is unique and offers a unique set of challenges for the players. The article will introduce you to various playing styles on different surfaces.

Clay- Clay courts are made of compressed brick and stone. These courts are relatively easy and cheap to install, however, long term maintenance of such courts can be quite expensive. The courts have a slower game with high bounce and are used in the French Open.

Grass- Grass courts are the fastest in the game due its low bounce characteristic. This requires the players to be very fast to reach the ball. Grass courts are not common these days as the maintenance is quite costly and constant watering and trimming of grass is required. The grass court is the signature of Wimbledon.

Carpet- These are removable tennis court surfaces. Carpets make for a fast game and can be made from either artificial turf or hard rubber.
