What do you know About the Science of Judging Speed?

Believe it or not but it has been proven by the scientists that the judgment of speed is unconsciously influenced by previously viewed speeds. For the result, the scientists did a researcher. During the research the vision scientists used slow-motion footage of people either running a marathon or walking as it would alter their perception of real-life movement. The scientists showed this footage to the viewers.

As a result, they found that after watching the footage for a short while, candidates judged normal-speed playback as too fast, and it had to be slowed down in order to appear 'normal'. The scientists stated that the opposite effect occurred after viewing fast movements. The result demonstrates that judgments of speed are unconsciously influenced by previously viewed speeds.

Moreover, the so-called 'adaptation effect' is down to a person's own understood 'norms' about how fast something would usually move being changed by relatively short periods of exposure to, unlike speeds.
