There are 72 clubs equally divided into three divisions, known as the Championship, League One and League Two. Each of the division has 24 clubs. The Football League has been associated with a title sponsor between 1983 and 2016. It changed its name with change in the sponsors. Two knockout cup competitions, the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy are also organized by it. It follows the rule that Clubs gain three points for a win. They get one point for a draw, and get no points for a defeat. At the end of the season, the best performer clubs who are at the top of their division may win promotion to the next higher division.
