Navjot Kaur Created History at 2018 Asian Wrestling Championship

The Asian Wrestling Championship is organized by the Asian Associated Wrestling Committee every year. In 2018, it took place at Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan. India backed a total of eight medals with one gold and one bronze medal. With this, Navjot Kaur created history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold in the senior continental championship in the 65 kg freestyle category. In the 50 kg category, Vinesh Phogat won the silver medal and in the 62 kg freestyle category, Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal. Highlights about all the medal winners are as follows:

Navjot Kaur- She started slow, losing her first group but dominated in the final and created history.

Vinesh Phogat- This is her second consecutive silver at the continental event. In the last December, during the Japanese Championship, she won against Yui Susaki and Eri Tosaka.

Sakshi Malik- The start was not that great. But somehow she managed to leave behind Kassymova and took home the bronze medal.

Rajender Kumar- He won the bronze medal for the first time by beating Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Mirakhmedov in the 55  kg Greco-Roman category medal bout.

Harpreet Singh- He won the bronze medal for the second time in the 82kg Greco-Roman category.

Sangeeta- She defeated Um Jieun of Korea Republic in 59 kg freestyle category to win herself a bronze medal.

Bajrang Punia- He won a bronze medal in the 65 kg freestyle category by defeating Iran’s Yones Aliakbar Emamichoghaei.

Vinod Kumar Omprakash- He won the bronze medal in the 70 kg freestyle category.
