Parents’ Relationships with Child Can Prevent Maltreatment

Recently, a research has cleared that improvement in the relationship between child and parent can prevent maltreatment in children.

The scientist has analyzed that approximately 3.9 million children were subjects of maltreatment as per the reports of child welfare agencies in 2013. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, child abuse and neglect cost the U.S. $124 billion in 2012. The scientists have stated that the research has been conducted in order to help children facing the problem of maltreatment. As per the scientists, researchers and clinicians first need to address the heart of the problem.

During a conference, Professor of Psychology at the University of Notre Dame said ‘the relationship between the parent and child is key’. The researchers have also shaded the light on the fact that more than 90 percent of maltreated children are victimized by one or both parents. The data was also collected from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the research.
