Natyanjali is a word that is derived from two words, first is ‘Natya’ which means dance and second is ‘Anjali’ which means offering. The day is meant for dancers who offer their dance as tribute to the one and only Lord Nataraja. The day is celebrated with full cheer in the Nataraja Temple, Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu.
Natyanjali Dance Festival accounts for almost 300 to 400 dancers from all over India and bring out their uniqueness onto one platform like Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Kathak, etc. The zesty festival is celebrated either in the month of February or March. It is a five day long festival that begins on the day of Maha Shivratri. The rich and diverse culture of dancers is shown through their traditional dresses.
