70 Point Performance Index Will Evaluate States On Schooling System

The government will implementa 70 point performance grading index (PGI) to evaluate any areas where the education system may be lacking and make interventions at every level from pedagogy to teacher training. This is one of three key missions of government before it goes forward with the next election along with Digital Boar and 4-year integrated BEd to train teachers from Classes 1-10. All the states have confirmed to comply with HRD, which is authorised to compile this index. The indicators will include a wide range of area like number of direct entry requirements, school teachers, vacancies and so on.

There will be a 1000 point grading system and each parameter will be given 10-20 points. This will help the states realise which areas need extra work on and prioritise areas for intervention to make sure that the education system is rugged at each and every level. The decision comes with government's efforts in the field of teacher training, quality improvement and learning outputs. Apart from this, the NCERT is also working with ministry to set up a Central Institute of Assessment to provide pedagogical improvements and personalised teachers training. The government is also working quite hard to reach out to schools with e learning materials. The HRD is also working on launching a 4-year integrated Bed course. This will help provide rigorous training for teachers to teach from Class 1 to Class 10 level. Azim Premji institute has expressed interest in this course.
