All About Mithali Raj

Born in December 1982, Mithali Dorai Raj is a popular Indian woman cricketer and also is the captain of India’s women cricket team. She was born in a Tamil family and started playing at the young age of 10. A little unknown fact about her is that she loves to do dancing and was once deeply passionate about it. However later on she chose cricket over her dance and we are not complaining!
She is currently regarded at the top of the world batting table and has amassed 703 ratings. Raj is famously known for her composure at the crease. In addition to that, she also has ability to roll in some essential bowing performances with the help of her arm over bowling leg-spinners.
Mithali was picked up by the Indian Team when she was only 17. Popularly she is also regarded as “Lady Sachin” due to her excellent commendable performances; she has become the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket.
Her Success
Rising through all the ranks, Mithali Raj has made her way to both the Test as well as the One Day International cricket for India’s women’s cricket team. Moreover, she was also speculated to be included amongst the list of 1997 Women’s Cricket World Cup at the age of 14.
Raj has broken the world record of scoring the highest individual scores in the women’s Test. The 19-year-old then played in her third Test and scored a massive 214 against England, and further broke Karen Rolton’s record of securing the world’s highest individual Test score of 209.
2005 World Cup Success
The 2005 World Cup was in the beginning going to be a highly anticipated contest, with the competition returning after 5 long years. After watching the first encounter being called off due to the heavy rains, the Indian team further went on to win over the next three matches. Although the young Women in Blue lost the encounter against the match with New Zealand but they still managed to end at the second place in the entire eight-team table. Mithali made numerous records which have created history in the women’s international cricket.
