Interesting Facts About Neptune!

We all have learnt the basic geography which firstly introduces us with our galaxies and solar system. We have studied about so many interesting facts and points that are associated with the fascinating secrets related to space. You must have read about facts related to mars and earth. But do you know that there are other planets too that have so many facts that may astound you. Here are some amazing facts that are related to Neptune.
• Neptune is the planet which is most distant from the Sun.
• It is the smallest giant, made up of gas.
• If you spent a year on Neptune it will be equal to 165 years on Earth.
• Neptune is given the name after Roman god of the sea.
• Neptune was earlier not known to the ancients as it is not visible from the naked eyes and it was first observed in 1846.
• The spinning rate of Neptune is very rapid and it rotates on its axis. It’s noted that the equatorial clouds of Neptune take 16 hours to complete one rotation as it is not solid body.
• The atmosphere of Neptune is composed of hydrogen and helium, with some amount of methane. The methane can absorb red light, which further makes the planet appear lovely blue in colour.
• Neptune is studied to have a very active climate as large storms whirl through the upper atmosphere, and the speedy winds track around the planet with speed of 600 meters per second. One of the greatest storms that have ever been seen was earlier recorded in 1989. It was regarded as the Great Dark Spot which lasted about five years.
• Neptune consists of very thin collection of rings. The rings are likely formed up of ice particles that are mixed up with dust grains and are possibly coated with carbon-based substance.
• Neptune has 14 moons and the most interesting moon among them is Triton which is a frozen world full of nitrogen ice and dust particles which are out from below its surface. It is probably known to be the coldest world in our solar system.
• Uptil now only one spacecraft has flown by Neptune which happened in the year 1989, when the Voyager 2 spacecraft swept past by the planet.
