Nearly 40,000 Students Skip Board Exams

Board exams hold a lot of importance in the life of each student. During the exams, not only students but parents and teachers also face and experience stress, anxiety, depression etc. In India, there are various boards at the national and the state level. Uttar Pradesh or UP Board is one of the famous boards. It is well known for not being very strict in its approach. In the present year, around 20, 674 students have not appeared to take up the first exam itself. Last year, around 10,44,619 lakh students which nearly 15% of all those who had registered had skipped the exams.

If we see the figures of the second day, we would observe that around 40,392 students failed to appear for the exam on the second day. This figure includes those 20,674 students who had not appeared for the first exam. The statistics have been released by UP Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad. Ms. Neena Srivastava, Secretary, UP Board stated that it is not clear as of now that what exactly is the reason behind the absence of such a large number of students. She believes that this may be due to the strict measures that have been introduced in order to put an end to the practice of copying. Just like the previous year, this year also a Special Task Force (STF) has been put to work in order to keeping the copying mafia away from the examination centres. Lately, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath had conducted a video conferencing session with all district magistrates and district inspector of schools and had warned them to be vigilant against the copying mafia. Shri. Mukesh Singh, District Inspector of schools, Lucknow informed that the agriculture paper for high school and the music for intermediate students was conducted on February 8, 2019. He mentioned that he himself visited Gandhi Inter college in Alambagh for inspection during the exam. Ms. Neena Srivastava stated that various strict measures have been taken in order to prevent any activity such as copying and use of unfair means during the exam by the students. Extra invigilation staff have also been deployed to prevent unfair practices.  She further added that it the first time that examinations are scheduled in a period of 16 working days. Also, sector and magistrates at exam centres have also been deployed to check any untoward incident. Due to the increased strictness in the previous year, registrations for 2019 examinations has seen a huge fall of near about 9 lakh students as compared to last year.
