Significance Of Sindoor!

Sindoor is basically made up of vermilion which is a red powder applied as a red streak along with parting of woman’s hair. It is also referred as kumkum or sindur. It is seen as a symbol of matrimony and is applied only after marriage. It is always applied in the centre and represents female energy. Firstly, it is put by a woman on the day of her marriage by her husband, and it then becomes a daily ritual after that.
History behind it
The history regarding it can be traced in the back, around 5000 years ago when the starting of Hinduism took place and it sow its seeds into the traditional and cultural outlook in India and all around. Historians have discovered this during the time of Harappan civilization, when it was applied by women and was one of the most prominent marks of being married. Besides this, there are legends that revolve around Hindu mythology indicating Radha, Lord Krishna’s wife, turning into a shape that resembled a flame on her forehead.
