Researchers founded away by which the prey can be saved from fast predators. They noticed zebras at African savannah that they are successful in escaping from cheetahs and lions.
What they noticed is that lower speed of prey helps them to trick the predator. Alan Wilson of the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, UK said that as the predator is at very high speed and can easily get the prey, it will be a bad move by prey if it tries to run fast but the smart move will be if the prey moves slow and sharply turns at the last moment, this will give time to the prey to escape and predator won’t be able to recover or stop at the moment. To find the detail knowledge about this researcher took a small sample of muscles to identify the power in them. Both cheetahs and lions have about 20% more powerful muscles, 37% greater acceleration and 72% greater deceleration capacity than their prey. So they found that at higher speed they can catch the prey easily but they can’t run at the lower speed which the prey can do. However lion and cheetah have more chance to catch the prey because of the high speed. Scientist said it reflects evolutionary arms race between prey and predator.
