The Ideal Example of a Government Run School

We all know about the deteriorating standards of the government schools in India. The common characteristics of a government school are shaky buildings, broken furniture, poor power supply, and quite often no teachers. But there is an exception to everything in the world. One such exception is a govt. school situated in Guali village in Kotpad block of the district of Chhattisgarh.

Nayak, works as the headmaster in the primary school. He along with other two colleagues has started making sand art and decorative items made from bamboo. This helps in decorating the school. Resultantly, Nayak and his fellows have created a separate identity for themselves. This school is a true example evident of the fact that all Government- run schools are not significant of damaged floors, paint peeling off walls, and leaking roofs. Some are indeed different from the others. In this school the classrooms, staff rooms, toilets and kitchen are in quite good condition. There is also a well maintained manicured garden that has been developed for the students for taking part in the extra- curricular activities. Alongside there is a library with a good collection of books and the students are encouraged to indulge in writing articles and making drawings for the wall magazine. The school was established in 1955, the school has classes from classes to V with 124 students. It also has a 40-bed hostel. Initially, the school was like any other government school. It was headmaster Nayak and his fellows who made all the efforts. The school is extremely innovative in approach. It has a replica of a traffic post and other traffic signals so that students can understand the subject. There is also a museum displaying the students' creativity, including handicrafts. The midday meal is cooked and served in the most hygienic condition with rice husk used as fuel instead of wood. The students are also trained on sand art and bamboo craft along with music and dance. They are made to frequently visit local villages with the teachers to make the residents aware about the benefits of hygienic living. In the year 2014- 15, the school received the best school award along with a cash prize of Rs. 2 Lacs.
