India's Hockey Coach Sjoerd Marijne under Scan After CWG 2018 Medal-Less Run

Indian Men's Hockey Team's coach has come under scanner after the team has a medal-less and rudder-less CWG 2018 performance. There is a performance review meeting scheduled for later this week. It has been heard that some senior players of the team like PR Sreejesh, Rupinder Pal Singh and Manpreet Singh have met top HI official in the capital for their explanation of the performance. India has won a medal at hockey each year for the past 12 years and this year has certainly not gone well with the national federation officials. The federation has said that they will not be shying away from taking any tough decisions once the review meeting was done.

Along with players, the performance of the coach will also be scanned and scrutinised so that corrective measures are taken, according to a Hockey India official. There is a line up of 3 important tournaments - Champions Trophy, Asian Games and World Cup - that has made these decisions far more important. India was medal favorite but performed poorly against the low ranked teams such as that of Wales, Pakistan, England and New Zealand. Marijne's salary is monitored by the Sports Authority of India but his performance is reviewed by the HI. He is currently in Netherlands at his home and is expected to arrive at national camp in Bangalore on April 27th.
