Climate Change – A Global Concern & Action Plan

Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's surface due to excessive amounts of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, CFC (Chlorofloro - carbons), etc. Global warming is also denoted by an increase in the temperature of Earth's surface air and ocean surface. Scientifically the understanding of global warming was noticed by a reduction in ice and snow, change in the water cycle, rise in sea level, and climate change. The literature of these events coerced scientists to think seriously about the changing pattern. Global warming is an extremely serious issue.
Effects of global warming:- The emission of greenhouse gases from vehicle and emissions of CFC gas from air conditioners are creating a real danger for our globe. CFC gases are eroding the ozone layer. Holes are being created in the ozone layer and ultraviolet rays are passing through these holes and it is directly affecting us. The sea level is increasing. This will submerge the coastal region and thus it will make the coastal people homeless and a big economic loss will result. The land area of the countries having more coastal land will get impacted economically at a greater scale. Few islands will get vanished in the future.
The climatic shift is another big issue at the international level. The effect of global warming will not equal at all places. It will vary depending on various factors. The ocean current will change its direction. Natural calamities may result in the form of cloud burst, heavy rain, sometimes drought in many places. Agricultural productivity may also get a negative impact due to abrupt changes in climate. The overuse of natural resources at an increased rate is becoming unsustainable for the welfare of human fate and the future. The effects are going to be very serious after 50 or 70 years.
Climate Change and Global Warming Action Plan for India
1. Introduce a Carbon Tax - Capturing carbon and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and planting trees could help slow and eventually reverse global warming trends.
2. Exponentially Increase the Deployment of Renewable Energy. Aggressively expand large-scale deployment of both centralized and distributed renewable energy including solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal to ease the strain on.
3. Develop a National Renewable Energy (RE) Policy. Enact and deploy a comprehensive new energy road map with innovative renewable energy policies.
4. Electrifying Transportation - Expedite a move to electrify transportation by encouraging expanded use of electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrids, and deployment of solar-powered EV charging stations around the country.
5. Promote energy efficiency in the economy, notably in industry, transportation, buildings, and appliances.
6. Aggressively invest in a smart, two-way grid (and microgrids). Invest in smart meters, as well as reliable networks that can accommodate the two- way flow of electricity.
7. Solar Roadways - India should also take advantage of the vast network of roads across India and the sun that beats down on them and turn them into energy-creating solar superhighways.

I bow you mother earth
The ultimate epitome of sacrifice
Keeping hottest your depth
To help us live in comfort and mirth
You help us to stand, walk and dance
With least fear of falling
With no fear of losing balance
With no fear of imbalance
We are marching ahead in life
Living our lives fast and large
Sadly, we forget are Mother Earth
White exploding rocks for roads and mine
To satiate our selfish greedy gain.
Oh! Mother Earth
Not single word you utter
For the pain you suffer
For the pain you endure.
The interference of man with nature
Raises mother earth's temperature
She loses her patience
Leading to quake sensations
True mother, you cry in pain and fear
That you might lose your loved and dear

The hungry earth and trees

Trees boasting of diamonds

Existence of life in the wide universe

But mankind turn a blind eye to

Earth Day 2020
22nd April 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Since its inception in 1970, this day has been celebrated to sensitize masses all around the globe to protect the planet we all share.
We at Eco Club, Ramjas promote the mission of Earth Day and as always had planned to pledge another year to create clean and sustaining communities, but due to the on-going lockdown, we have to change our plans. As a result of the current circumstances surrounding COVID-19, this earth day has marked itself “unique”, as it reminds us about two calamities threatening our very existence.
Today, life in quarantine has become the new normal. People say "Mother Earth" is rebooting itself. Early morning Chirping of birds, clear blue sky with clean air to breathe rejuvenates our bodies and fills our heart with joy. The sound of nature throughout the day sings its story of happiness and freedom. All creations of God except humans are enjoying their lives to the fullest. It’s a rare sight to watch the moon with millions of stars in the sky during the night. It's all happening now.
As we stand on our balconies enjoying the gift of nature, we need to ask ourselves, How long will this gift persist? Till the lockdown?
Just give it a little thought. What after the lockdown?
Will it be the outbreak of Humans, vehicles, unpleasant noises, poisonous smoke and smog? Impatient crowds running in rage, No clear sky or bird songs. A gloomy site with exhausted bodies like machines moving around or maybe, we have learned a lesson to change our actions and thoughts to give respect to others and Mother Earth.

मैं नहीं हम
आज का युग ‘मैं’ नहीं ‘हम’ का युग है। ‘अकेला चना भाड़ नहीं फोड़ सकता’ आज यह कहावत कितनी सही प्रतीत होती है।अकेला व्यक्ति चाहे वह कितना ही प्रतिभाशाली तथा परिश्रमी क्यों न हो ,सब कुछ तो अपने बलबूते पर नहीं कर सकता ‘एक से भले दो’ यह आम प्रचलित कथन ‘हम’ को आधार बनाकर किए गए कार्य के संदर्भ में बिलकुल सही बैठता है।
मिलजुल कर कार्य करने का सबसे अच्छा उदाहरण हमें प्रकृति देती है।चींटियों की सहयोग भावना को कौन नहीं जानता कि वह कैसे लोहे की ज़ंजीर की तरह आपस में एक दूसरे से जुड़कर गोलाकार छल्ले बनाकर बड़ी-बड़ी नदियों तक को पार कर लेती है। दीमक भी तो इसीलिए अपना अस्तित्व बनाए हुए है, मधुमक्खियाँ भी तो इसी नीति को अपनाकर छत्ता बनाती है।जब तुच्छ समझे जाने वाले पशु -पक्षी एवं कीड़े -मकोड़े तक सहयोग एवं संगठन -शक्ति का महत्व समझते हैं तो कोई कारण नहीं कि विकसित और बुद्धिमान कहा जाने वाला मनुष्य साथ -साथ मिलजुल कर कार्य न कर सके ।अपने ‘मैं’ को दरकिनारे कर ‘हम’ के सिद्धांत पर कार्य करने से ही आज के युग में सफलता मिल सकती है।बारिश की एक बूँद , तूफ़ान की तुलना में क्या है ।एक विचार ,मन की तुलना में क्या है।’मैं’ की स्वार्थ परक संकीर्ण भावना से ऊँचे उठकर हाथ की पाँच उँगलियों की तरह रहना , आज की आवश्यकता बन गई है क्योंकि ये हैं तो पाँच लेकिन काम सहस्रों कर लेती हैं।मिलजुल कर काम करने से मुश्किल से मुश्किल काम भी सरल हो जाते हैं।समय की बचत तो होती ही है, तमाम बाधाओं को भी दूर किया जा सकता है।किसी ने ठीक ही कहा है—
एक -एक फूल से बनती है माला
एक -एक धागे से बनती है दूशाला
घर बनता है एक -एक ईंट से
घोंसला बनता है एक -एक तिनके से
एक -एक बूँद से बन जाती है नदिया
एक -एक फूल से खिल जाती है बगिया
मुट्ठी में जो शक्ति है, वह उँगलियों में नहीं
रस्सी में जो ताक़त है , वह धागे में नहीं
इसी तरह -
‘हम’ में जो महा शक्ति है
वह
‘मैं’ की स्वार्थ परता में नहीं
वह
‘मैं’ की संकीर्णता में नहीं।

Accepting Atheism
Religion is one of the most sensitive issues in today's world. With the rise in right-wing politics, terror outfits and Islamophobia, it has become one of the most discussed issues too. But what if someone does not conform to a particular religion? What if someone doesn't believe in God? Atheists comprise almost 8% of the world's population. This means that atheism, or the absence of belief in the existence of deities, is a significant world view. I consider myself an atheist but I have stopped advertising my views. Many times, I have been criticized for being an atheist. Explanations are demanded. I give no reply because of the sensitivity of the issue. I don't wish to hurt the sentiments of any person who believes In God.
Once drawn into a debate on this topic, I was told by a friend that he believed in God. He believed that God had created life and he respected and worshipped Him. When I probed him about his belief in religion, his reply was that religion is a means of functioning in society, a set of rules and customs to follow. It started a new train of thought. The existence of God is a concept I have wrestled with for some time. It goes against one of my most fundamental beliefs that I alone have the power to change my circumstances and my destiny. No amount of prayer and chanting can change that. To believe in an Omni-present, all-powerful entity means to relinquish control over my abilities. However, believing in the existence of God is not unacceptable to me. I understand that millions of people all over the world derive comfort and happiness from their faith. However, I am firm in my conviction that no religion can define the rules for existing in society, no religion can dictate the right way to worship God.
My moral code is an amalgamation of the principles I value and the practices of different religions that I have come to respect. It is the reason why I light diyas on Diwali but stop short of muttering a prayer whose meaning I don't know. Reading the newspaper every day is a reaffirmation of my conviction. The amount of blood shed in the name of religion is unacceptable. So, perhaps I am simply only nonreligious.
I would also just like to say that I have never met an atheist who has demanded that a person give an Iron-clad reason for believing in God but I have on several occasions been berated for reasons behind my non-belief. I think it speaks volumes about the liberalism of religious people. I believe that a person's religious identity or the lack of it is important. In any society, a lot of emphasis is placed on religion. People form their own views on religion after much contemplation and deliberation. To censure them for their views is unfair.
The debate about faith and God is never-ending. People grapple with their beliefs over their entire lifetime. I am confident that my own thoughts about this issue will evolve with time and experience. I just hope that I remain receptive and rational.
