Queen H5 and Checkmate!

A board game that soon turns into a ruthless battleground. Strategies are made, moves are calculated, enemies are killed, military animals are sacrificed and soldiers are lost… all this for one solo motive—total victory! Such is the game of chess.

Seem to have originated and evolved from the famous game of Mahabharata called chaturanga, its precursor was played in India in as early as the 6th century. Later, the name evolved to shatranj. Soon, the game spread to other parts of the world. For a long time, it was known as the “royal game” because it was popular among the nobility. The current design of the game reached this form around 19th century.

Indian chess players like Vishwanathan Anand and Humpy Koneru highlighted put India on the map in various world chess tournaments. Vishwanathan became the undisputed world chess champion from 2007 to 2013. He, along with other several meritorious players, continues to achieve milestones and makes our country proud.

Playing chess is known to have amazing benefits for children. Chess helps to improve concentration. It helps to pre-plan and forward plan. Children hone their problem-solving skills with chess. They learn to form strategies and use both sides of their brain. Chess improves attention span in children and also their memory. Isn’t it great to reap all these benefits from playing a board game!
