Towards a Cleaner Ocean

United Nations new campaign is aimed at providing the world with uncontaminated water bodies. The main source of trash in ocean is basically of two types- micro plastics in cosmetics and plastic bags.

Reports convey that if this procedure of dumping the waste in ocean continues then by 2030 the amount of trash will be heavier than the total fish in the water. The campaign was launched to appeal to the government for new policies to reduce the usage of plastic products and also to ensure that companies use lesser plastic for packaging and working purposes. This would indirectly lead to lesser disposal of plastic trash in the ocean bodies.

The issue is of such grave importance because the presence of plastic in the ocean has put the lives of 600 marine species in danger. Ingesting or entangling in this waste will put the already endangered species in danger and can lead to their extinction.
