A Basketball Training Program Launched For The Underprivileged By A Class 11 Delhi Student

More than 140 underprivileged school students in Delhi have participated in a five-day basketball training program organized by 'ASSIST' in collaboration with Crossover Basketball and Scholars Academy.
On 25 March 2019, a class 11 student Kartikeya Goel from Delhi Public School in Vasant Kunj and a junior national level basketball player crafted out ‘ASSIST’ and took an initiative to collaborate with Crossover Basketball and Scholars Academy to bring their 'Hoops Creating Hope' program to Delhi.

More than 140 underprivileged school students in Delhi have participated in a five-day basketball training program organized by 'ASSIST' in collaboration with Crossover Basketball and Scholars Academy.
The program started on March 25 and concluded on Friday, March 29, 2019.
Under the guidance of a two- time defensive player of the year, Alana Beard, WNBA this five-day long basketball training program observed over 140 children from Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust and Teach for India classrooms. The program was also accompanied by international level coaches from Crossover Academy.
Apart from all this, around 25 basketball coaches from across India have also volunteered to attend a 'Coaches Clinic', with the promise to provide international level coaching through a lens of social impact within their own communities.

Objectives of the event:
In keeping with the overall theme on gender equity and women empowerment, more than 70 percent of registered participants were girls.
"Through ASSIST I hope to aid in empowering the underprivileged and differently-abled children in all-round personality development," he added.
About ASSIST:
ASSIST provides underprivileged and gifted children with basketball training while inculcating in them life skills that the game teaches.
Ultimately, the aim is to enable gifted children to learn life skills such as discipline, teamwork, leadership and perseverance.
About Crossover Basketball and Scholar's Academy:
An international non-profit organization dedicated to impacting gender equity and education rates of marginalized communities in India through the use of basketball as a vehicle of change.
'Hoops Creating Hope' is a free program boosting young minds with leadership, gender equity, character, teamwork, and communication with academic success. It also focuses on creating hope in their classrooms, communities and families.
