Editorials News | Jul-22-2018
Classes that cover the ambitious "happiness curriculum" will be introduced by the Delhi government in government schools from nursery till the 8th standard. The classes are going to begin from next week, as announced by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Around 9-10 lakh students will be taught in these classes. At the orientation programme, Deputy CM also mentioned that the government is in talks with municipal corporations that run primary schools in the city.
He said that if the students from the corporation schools also participate then the number of children to be covered under the curriculum is going to shoot upto 15-16 lakhs. The classes would hopefully counter (if not completely resolve) modern-day problems like corruption, terrorism and pollution etc. By teaching kids about happiness and positivity from early on can help instill pragmatic and helpful approach in the students. Sisodia also mentioned that he is hopeful that someday this initiative by Delhi government will be adopted throughout the country. The curriculum considers of a daily 45 minute session on happiness that begins with mindfulness and then followed by story-telling and an activities session. There will be a three day orientation programme with 18000 teachers to help train them for the curriculum. Once this is done, an orientation for 1000 school officials will be held the very next day.
