Good News for Those Who Wish to be Teachers
Editorials News | Dec-13-2018
Teaching is a noble profession. Indeed a teacher’s role in a student’s life is extremely crucial and important. We often use students who aspire to become doctors, lawyers, engineers etc. but we hardly find a student who wants to be a teacher. It is basically because the profession is not very lucrative and doesn’t offer too much of money. Also, till date there wasn’t any course as such that one can think of pursuing to become a teacher right after class 12th. In order to solve this problem, a new Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) has been introduced.
This programme shall enable the students who wish to pursue teaching as a profession to start aiming for their goal right after class 12th. This programme shall come into effect from the next year. For seeking admission into this course, one has to score 50% and above in secondary or an equivalent exam. The ITEP shall award the students with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree based on the subjects that they opt for at the due fulfillment of their course. This programme is not very similar to the B.Ed course. It consists of two courses: ITEP primary education and ITEP upper primary to secondary education. This programme aims to combine the general studies comprising of mathematics and science, social science and humanities along with professional studies which includes perspectives in education, other core education courses, curriculum and pedagogy of school subjects and practicals concerning the duties and responsibilities of a teacher. This is basically being done in order to groom and train the aspirants for the profession from the very beginning. The application procedure for this programme’s implementation has already begun from December 3, 2018. Higher education institutes can also offer this programme if they please to. Those institutes that have a teacher education programme can also choose to offer this programme at their respective premises. The institutes will be granted the permission to conduct the first batch of the course, i.e. 2019- 2023 in the first phase. The last date for the submission of applications for this course is December 31, 2018. Students can also call upon the helpline nos. 011-23270176 or 23379186 in case if they require more information in this regard. With this wonderful initiative we will soon see students opting for this course. This way we will be able to have better groomed teachers than we have in the present time.
