Lack Of Education In Rural Area

The real India lives in villages, this saying is as true today as it was when the country got independence 64 years back. As more than half of the population of the country lives in villages, rural development is an eminent factor for the development of our economy. The crucial motivating factor for the development of the economy in today’s time is Education. Like in the body of a human being liver is responsible for the proper functioning of the body, in the same way, education acts as a backbone for the economy. To explore this significant role of education in India especially in rural India, this paper tries to explain the failures and problems being faced by rural education. It also addresses the various initiatives been taken by the government. The paper also highlights some of the suggestions for improving the education system in rural or remote areas.

Quality and access to education is the major concern in rural schools as there are fewer committed teachers, lack of proper textbooks and learning materials in the schools. Though government schools exist, when compared to private schools then quality is a major issue. The majority of people living in villages have understood the importance of education and know that it is the only way to get rid of poverty. But due to lack of money, they are not able to send their children to private schools and hence depend upon government schools for education. Above that, in some government schools, there is only one teacher for the entire school. Every village is not provided with a school which means that students have to go to another village to get an education. Owing to this parents usually do not send their children to school, leading to a failure in achieving rural education in India.
