Editorials News | Jan-17-2019
Along with so many different educational reforms that the governments keep introducing, lately a never before initiative has come up. Under this initiative, students of class 9 will be able to enrol directly into Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU), Gurugram.
The university offers skill based education. This initiative has been brought forward in order to improve the employment potential in the country. This concept is popularly being called as “feeder school”. This is basically being done in order to reduce the rate of dropouts from school. Both CBSE and the Board of School Education, Haryana have approved the newly introduced concept. CBSE has approved it under the “innovation school” category. After receiving approval from both CBSE board and the Haryana board, the university is all set to introduce the new concept from the current academic session. SVSU Vice-Chancellor Shri Raj Nehru is the father of this concept. He conceived this concept after conducting a survey on students who dropped out from university or schools. 90% of the students dropped out because of financial incapacity. Keeping that in mind this university is designed on the model: “Earn while you learn”. As a part of the new concept, the students would have to learn three skill based subjects other than English and computers in standard 9 and 10th. In Class XI and XII, students would have the option of specialising in one of the skill-based subjects, which shall be extremely helpful in deciding their career. All students will be taught basic maths and science alongside. After Class XII, the students would be free to opt for completing Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc), a three-year degree recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or go back into the traditional education system. This way each and every student will be able to complete their graduation at least. The main objective of this initiative is to prepare the students for the future well in advance and introduce them to the world of skill at an early stage and offer the best man power for the industry. Similar models have been implemented in Finland, Singapore and Germany. Under this initiative the students will be able to work for the industry along with their studies with the help of flexible class timings. This initiative is aimed at introducing dual vocational education model in the integrated work and study mode as per the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).
