Parent Training Program to Reduce ADHD Behavioural Issues
Editorials News | Mar-15-2017
Researchers of Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) have recently adapted a parent training program. It was organized for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The program will be used with families in Japan, where ADHD-specific behavioural interventions are not enough.
Japan has fewer pharmacological and behavioural options when compared to other nations. There is a shortage of trained experts.
It was found that Japanese parents praise their children more sparingly than the western parents. Overcoming this cultural norm could be challenging for mothers but needs to be done. The researchers stated that children with ADHD need to be rewarded with positive praises for all accomplishment.
The study and interventions conducted on the Japanese parents, at OIST reported that the ADHD symptoms and the mother’s stress as a parent appeared to be reduced. It is being said that the further studies will be focused on using objective evaluation of child behaviour and parent child relationship.
