Kochi: the Kerala High Court issued notices to the state government and others about a public interest litigation presented by the CBSE and ICSE Schools Forum in Kollam that seeks to ban the 'bandhs' and the class boycott organized by the student organizations.
A division bank composed of the President of the Supreme Court also asked the state to provide an explanation of the 'bandh' of education recently held in Kollam. The other respondents in the case include student organizations such as SFI, KSU, ABVP and AISF. The petition says that the bandhs of education interrupt the operation of schools and colleges.
The petitioner also said that there are no followers for student organizations in ICSE / CBSE schools, student leaders from other schools and the operation of these schools through the use of force. After the reopening of the school, for silly reasons, three education bands have been organized. Although petitions were sent to the government, the DIP and the DGP in this regard, no action was taken.
Student unions are going on strike in schools for weak reasons to achieve their political motives sponsored by their political bosses. Union leaders abstain from class and prevent other students from entering educational institutions. Adverse incidents are being avoided through timely interventions by the heads of institutions, the petition said in referring to the stabbing incident at University College.
Schools in the state, especially in Kollam, cannot reach the minimum required number of working days of 200 due to frequent bandhs and educational harassments, according to the petitioner. Last year, a total of 97 days was lost due to injuries and more than 25 days were lost due to educational bandhs, which led to the total loss of workdays to more than 125 days. As the exams are conducted nationwide, Affiliated agencies such as CBSE and ICSE. They are not worried about the loss of workdays and it is the students who will suffer, the petition says.
The petition says that when students who are interested in studying are opposed to the strike, problems of law and order arise that force the head of the institution to intervene to avoid adverse incidents.
The government should be directed to prohibit campus politics, the petitioner said.
