Scientists Find New Activities on Space
Editorials News | Nov-25-2017
A team of scientists has discovered that the red dwarf star Ross 128 is orbited by a low-mass explanted every 9.9 days. This research was conducted in collaboration with ESO's High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) at the La Silla Observatory in Chile. According to the research, the Earth-sized world is expected to be temperate, with a surface temperature.
The measured temperature may also be close to that of the Earth. The scientists said that the Ross 128 is the "gentlest" nearby star to host such a temperate exo-planet. As per the scientists, red dwarfs are some of the coolest and most usual stars in the Universe. The quiet nature of this star makes them very good targets in the search for exo-planets and so they are increasingly being studied.
The HARPS program has been named as ‘the shortcut to happiness’ by the scientists, as it is easier to detect small cool siblings of Earth around these stars than around stars more similar to the Sun.
