Soldiers from India who fought for the British in World War I

During the nineteenth century, many countries in the world were colonized by the European powers. Britain, Prussia, and Austria were the major dominants of that time. The British colonization expanded with rising of industrialization in Britain. It began to colonize many parts of other continents out of which the major countries were: South Africa, India, and Australia. Britain established imperial domination and autocratic governance in all of its colonies and especially exploited India because it was rich in resources and wealth.

In the nineteenth century, Balkan's ethnic variation became a reason for its trouble. Each European power including Russia was keen on countering the hold of the Balkan region and extending its control over the area. Nationalism aligned with imperialism led Europe to disaster and finally led to the "First World War". Britain was a key front in this battle. It exploited farmers and citizens of its colonies for participating in the war. India's population was much more than other British colonies. Hence, the British forced a lot of Indians to fight the war as soldiers for the 'British Nation'.

The population of the British nation is not enough for supplying the soldiers for the War alone. Hence, the British leaders pressurised the Indian Farmers to get recruited into the British Army to fight the World War. The World War made the British force conscription of soldiers in the army which was intolerant by Indian farmers and soldiers. The war led to a huge increase in defense expenditure which completely changed the political and economical situation. Income Tax was also introduced and revenue was increased. Crop failure leading to food storage accompanied by famines caused widespread anger. Hence, the Indian soldiers were very upset to participate in the First World War on behalf of Britain. But, taking the number advantage provided by Indian soldiers, the British nation managed to stand victorious with a coalition of the "Allied Powers" and defeated the Ottoman Empire: Turkey. Therefore, it would not be possible for Britain to secure its victory until it did not recruit Indian soldiers in its Army.
