The Impact of Trauma on Human Development

The Influence of Trauma on the Development of the Human Brain

Trauma is an intense shock or pain caused by an experience. The reason could be accidents, bereavement, violence, or natural disasters. People can be traumatized at any age and experience the impact over time. It can shape, or distort, how a person thinks, feels, and acts. Trauma can have profound effects on development in early years. Children’s brains are growing, so stress can reshape how they are built. This can interfere with learning, memory, and focus. Some children may become silent; others may act out in anger or fear. Trauma can also alter the way people relate to others as they get older. They could have difficulty trusting or becoming close to others. Some might not feel enough; others, too much. These shifts can cause problems with school, work, and relationships. It also has an impact on physical health. When people are scared or upset, levels of stress hormones increase. If it keeps happening, the body can take a toll. What are some of the telltale signs of burnout? “ In the longer term, it can raise the risk of heart disease or other major illnesses. However, healing is possible. Speaking with a counselor or therapist can go a long way. Friends' and family's support also has a big impact. Hobbies such as drawing, writing, or deep breathing can help quiet the mind. Who am I to define the shape of a person in such a blur? With the proper care and support, human beings can recover. They can learn, develop, and create a better future. Trauma knowledge is the first step in healing and health.
