Basket Ball Federation Of India Achieves New Position In FIBA

Basket Ball Federation of India, the body that governs and controls Basket Ball in India.This body is responsible for the promotion and development of Basketball in India. The BFI involves in organizing and managing various national-level and all other basketball operations in India. Thisorganization is elementary in organizing training camps and allnational tournaments as well as preparing both men and women teamsfor all international competitions under various age groups. Thenational team of India is also known as the Young Cagers. The governing body of BFI was formed in 1950.The Indian National BasketBall team is also a member of the International Basketball Federationor FIBA since 1936. However, Basketball in India existed since pre-independence specifically form 1934, and since then approximately 64 Senior National Championships have been held in various statesacross the country in different categories including women and juniors.

Indian basketball players under guidance of BFI have won several trophies for the country over the years. Seventeen basketball players have been so far honored by the Government of India by awarding them Arjuna Award. Two basketball players have also been awarded with Dhyan Chand Awards for lifetime achievement.

The FIBA Asia Zone Assembly was held in Bangalore on the 8th and 9th June 2019, where Shri K Govindaraj the President of the Basketball Federation of Indiawas elected as a member of the FIBA Asia Central Board. This is the first time for an Indian to be elected to the prestigious decisionmaking body of FIBA's Asia zone. Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani wasre-elected for the third term as the President of the FIBA Asia inthe Assembly held in Bangalore.
Mr. K Govindaraj who is very passionate about basketball assured of his continued support for uplifting the game of basketball not just in India but the wholeof South Asian region.
