BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year is Phil Foden

The performance displayed by Phil Foden in the FIFA U17 World Cup made England to win the tournament. One can watch how Manchester City seems to be unstoppable in the Premier League of this season.

Also, the depth in the squad has been appreciated greatly for the heroic efforts of Manchester City. It was seen that their depth has permitted them to provide starts to young academy talent coming through the ranks. One such player who really made an impact is a 17 – year – old midfielder Phil Foden. This Englishman who was starred in England’s FIFA U – 17 World Cup made his victory in India. He even scored two goals in the finals at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. This helped his team to win 5-2 against a very competitive Spanish team. His achievements did not stop here and he has now grabbed the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award. Now, in addition to all these, if we move back to his historical achievements, he became the youngest Englishman ever to start a UEFA Champions League game. He has often been termed as the “The Stockport Iniesta” for his likeness to the Barcelona Star. The notable and one of the distinguished events, BBC event saw the runner Mo Farah won the BBC Sports Personality of the year award. In the event, one can see Foden was a very able young deputy of Mo Farah. The FIFA U – 17 World Cup became the defining moment for Foden. This teenager was considered tournament’s best player and received the coveted Golden Ball award for his valuable contribution. This award is of great importance to Foden in front of likes of Wayne Rooney and Andy Murray who have secured the honor in the past. The U -1 7 World Cup is a stepping stone for Foden and who knows that Foden will go on to become one of the biggest stars in the football universe.
