Can We Really Make Sci-Fi Space Forces A Reality?

Recently Donald Trump said he is very serious about creating a Space Force. A branch that would handle America’s off the Earth or off planet activities. However, how does one implement this, as no one has any idea how the force would look like but for few Sci-fi movies to give ideas about different military organizations in space.

Star Trek; The idea of the planet coming together as a single global government and venture out towards the stars seemed very idealistic however, how much of it can be really implemented is a real question.

Aliens; Imagine a privatized governmental force that helps powerful company to control its far flung holdings in outer space or other planets. Not forgetting of course getting attacked by unknown aliens and ships being taken over by the aliens.

Independence Day Resurgence; Imagine United Nations recognizes the aliens who had killed tens of millions and as a safety measure builds a Earth Space Defense Force to ward off any future threats. However, does the military have the expertise to build more advanced weapons that the futuristic attackers may develop by that time?

Battlestar Galactica; This really throws light on cyber security. The real risk of hacking which always does not function from some shady dim light basement. The weak point could be the citizens themselves, used as a bait to access and the defense mainframes.

Starship Troopers; this is yet another example of misrepresentation of how a space force should be. To think about a Space force, especially a new military branch does not send good vibes as there is already some uncomfortable vibes between Russia and the United States.
