Central Government Grants Scholarships to Over 3,500 J&K Students

This year, the Central Government has awarded scholarships to over 3,500 students from Jammu & Kashmir to enable them to pursue higher education outside the state. These scholarships are worth Rs. 75 crore.
"Earlier, the quota for Jammu & Kashmir students in engineering colleges was limited to only 250, but this year, 1,430 students were granted admission in various reputed engineering colleges," Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said. He added that out of more than 3,500 scholarships, Kashmir valley accounted for 1,329, Ladakh for 26, and Jammu for 2,255.
Besides engineering, students are getting scholarships for nursing, medical sciences & hotel management courses as well. Under the scheme, tuition fee of up to Rs 1.25 lakh is borne by the government besides up to Rs one lakh for hostel & food expenses.
To avail this scholarship, the students must have passed higher secondary school from Jammu & Kashmir, and their family income must be less than six lakh rupees per annum.
